Our Story

EST. 2024

35 years in the industry — here's what we learned, and why it changed everything.

It started with a teenager who just wanted to buy a car. At 16, Bill took a job in a local doctor's office and stumbled into the optical world — not expecting much, and not expecting to stay. He stayed for 35 years.

What followed was a career most people in the industry never get to see from the inside. Bill managed single locations, oversaw 25 retail locations and 41 in-house labs, built wholesale manufacturing operations from the ground up, and ultimately served as national director responsible for 240 labs across a nationwide company. He saw the big picture and the players in it — from street level all the way to the top.

And here's what he saw: in too many places, profit came before patients. Quality materials were swapped out when they cut into margins. New associates were handed a name tag and put on the floor with almost no training. Customers were rushed through appointments, sold what was convenient, and sent on their way.

That's not a system Bill was willing to stay in — and it's not the experience he was willing to give you.

Two careers. One mission.

Jabi Optics exists because of everything Bill learned — including what not to do. But it also exists because of Lorrie.

Bill and Lorrie met the way a lot of optical industry people do — working alongside each other at a retail location, navigating the same daily realities of the business. Lorrie had already built her own career in the field, learning her craft from the ground up and accumulating more than 20 years of hands-on experience. She knew exactly what the industry looked like from the inside. And when Bill decided he wanted to build something different, she didn't just support the idea — she understood it in a way only someone who'd lived it could.

While Jabi Optics was finding its footing, Lorrie worked full-time and carried most of the financial weight of their household so Bill could focus on doing things right rather than doing things fast. That kind of belief in a mission is rare. It doesn't show up on a business license, but it's woven into everything we do.

"Jabi Optics isn't just one person's dream. It's where two careers in the optical industry — and two lives — came together, and decided you deserved better."
